System Overview
The controller board is connected to the computer through an RS485 to PC bridge. This bridge could connect to the computer through the serial port, usb, or a pci card. It really doesn't matter.
The controller board is connected to a DC power supply. This can supply power to all of the endpoints.
The daughter boards are connected to the HUGnet outputs on the controller board. They are also connected to the sensors. They generally are semi-permanently wired into the box because the sensors are.
The endpoints are connected to the daughter boards. These are the powered through the daughter boards. They also provide the mechanical mounting in the electrical box.
Installation Notes
Government Regulations
In the state of Minnesota you have to be a licensed Power Limited Technician or Electrician to install the wiring associated with HUGnet. The only exception to this is if you are installing it in a home you own and occupy. If you are outside please check regulations in your area before installing HUGnet on a commercial basis.
Circuit Board Mounting
The endpoint and controller boards both mount in electrical boxes. This provides a plethora of different boxes and mounts that are cheap.
License
All HUGnet hardware will be released under the TAPR Open Hardware License.
