Endpoints are the backbone of the HUGnet system. They are split into 2 pieces for versatility. The endpoint, and the daughter board.

SV4 3.010, 0.760 Digital Header (10 pin)

Firmware

The firmware is what does the sensing. Version 1 and 2 endpoints needed specific firmware for the sensors it was reading because of code space. Version 3 endpoints

Mounting the Board

The endpoint is made to mount in a standard electrical box. The holes in the board line up with the screw holes on the box. The board faces into the box and is held in place by the cover of the box.

Note: A plastic cover should be used to avoid shorting the back of the board.

Face Out Mounting

The boards can be mounted on mud plates that are screwed to the wall face out. This makes it easy to work on the boards. This should only be done in a very protected location as the boards are out in the open and easy to disturb.

Powering the Board

The board can be powered either through HUGnet or through an external power source. Both of these power options can be connected either through the daughter board or through the endpoint board itself.

Normally this is connnected through the daughterbaord. The resistor and jumper required to power the board through HUGnet are also normally on the daughter board.

Standard Connection

The standard way to connect a sensor endpoint is to connect the daughter board to the HUGnet line and has the resistors to power the board. This way was chosen because the daughter board is pretty well attached in place because of the sensor cables, so this puts all of the permanent connections on one board. The endpoint board is also more likely to fail than the daughter board, so it should be easier to replace.

Isolated Connection

If the item being measured needs to be isolated from the HUGnet separate power can be applied to the board. The power resistors should then be left off the daughter board. This gives about 2000V of isolation between HUGnet and the board itself.

Hardware Versions

  • 0039-28 Current Production Version
  • 0039-12
  • REALLY old one based on the Xemix chip. We had many problems with this and it never really went anywhere. I will not document it further at this time. It is history and not worth the time. It did have a nice A to D.
