Project:HUGnet Daughter Board

From HUG Wiki

This is the board that connects to the sensors or controlled items. It is customized for exactly what sensors or controlled items go on it. This board is the glue between the endpoint board and what it is controlling or sensing.

Issues

One of the problems we have with the daughter boards is that most of them are custom. They all have certain parts in common and there are a couple we could make a BOM for, but most are one of creations. The light sensor is a good example of that. It has 5 light sensors and 3 or 4 temperature readings. So the first 5 inputs have the resistors for light sensors, and the others have resistors for temperature sensors. It is the only daughter board we have made like this. We might have another that has 8 light sensors on it. I am still trying to come to grips with this.

Connecting

Endpoint

It connects to the endpoint via 3 (or 4 is possible with 0039-28 Endpoints) headers. The only mounting for this board is the connectors.

Sensors

See the pages for specific daughter boards for information on this.

HUGnet

HUGnet should be connected through the daughter board. The HUGnet connector should just be connected across the HUGnet bus.

Power

The daughter boards may or may not supply power to the endpoint. See the power requirements for the endpoint for what power needs to be connected. If power is connected, it should be done through the daughter board.

If the daughter board supplies power to the board from HUGnet a resistor of about 500 Ohms for 12 Volts or 1K for 24 volts should be put between the HUGnet+ line and the +V line. The ground and HUGnet- line should be directly connected to each other.
