A HUGnet core is a data collector and one or more controller boards in a modular package. A HUGnet core only needs power and ethernet and has live HUGnets. All of the wiring has been done and is part of the module.

Versions

So far there have been two HUGnet cores built.

Version 2

This is the current version. It is capable of having many more cards installed, plus having two computers.

Version 1

Scott's Prototype Core
Scott's Prototype Core

This version is mounted on a back plane for a Hoffman enclosure. It is built off of a 600 Mhz Via Epia motherboard, 512MB ram, 512MB Compact Flash card, an automotive 12-24V ATX DC-DC power supply, an Integrity Instruments XP485-9EI rs485 to rs232 adapter (with a rs232 to USB adapter), and one HUGnet controller. It contols the HUGnets that Scott uses to do all of his testing with.

Asus WL-500gP Wireless Router

This wireless router seems to have all of the hardware necessary to run HUGnet. Here are some notes about the configuration I am using.

The following sets up the USB port to work and take the two common USB->Serial adapters we use:

# ipkg install kmod-usb-core kmod-usb-uhci kmod-usb2 kmod-usb-serial-ftdi kmod-usb-serial-pl2303
