What is Permaculture?

Permaculture is a design method whose goal is to create human settlements based on principles of ecology. It combines science and ethics to encourage care for the earth, care for people, and sharing of surplus. Some of the major principles of Permaculture design include:

  1. Catch, store, and recycle energy and resources on site.
  2. Stack functions
  3. Accelerate ecological succession in planting systems.

We have started by focusing our attention on the grounds around the main office building. There are several main ideas we are trying to incorporate: We would like to

  1. capture and use as much water from impervious surfaces as possible.
  2. grow as much food as possible in perennial systems that are based on the native plant communities in this area.
