The HUG Research & Development Campus was designed for the purpose of exploring and developing systems that support ecological living.

We believe that houses should...

  • heat and cool themselves without fossil fuels
  • process their own water and waste
  • help feed the occupants

As part of Phase 2 we welcomed other organizations on campus:

Happy Dancing Turtle (HDT) is dedicated to promoting sustainable living – from renewable fuels, to healthy local foods, to strong, local economies. A non-profit on the Hunt Utilities Group (HUG) campus, HDT offers hands-on classes, special events, tours of the HUG campus , collaborations with community and like-minded organizations, and research & experimentation opportunities.

Rural Renewable Energy Alliance (RREAL) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to making solar power accessible to people of all income levels. Through our flagship program, SolarAssistance, we install solar heating systems in partnership with qualifying low-income families, at no cost to the homeowner. With few moving parts, Solar Assistance installations operate virtually maintenance-free, providing clean heat for decades. RREAL manufactures a high performance solar heat panel and installs solar electricity, hot water, and air vent systems at market rate.
