Research Campus
The HUG Research & Development Campus was designed for the purpose of exploring and developing systems that support ecological living. The campus is home to the following organizations.
HUG is a for-profit organization, researching methods to provide affordable housing that can heat and cool itself without fossil fuels, process its water and waste, and help feed the occupants. ![]() HDT is dedicated to promoting sustainable living – from renewable fuels, to healthy local foods, to strong, local economies. A non-profit on the Hunt Utilities Group (HUG) campus, HDT offers hands-on classes, special events, tours of the HUG campus, collaborations with community and like-minded organizations, and research & experimentation opportunities.
RREAL is a nonprofit organization dedicated to making solar power accessible to people of all income levels. Through our flagship program, SolarAssistance, we install solar heating systems in partnership with qualifying low-income families, at no cost to the homeowner. With few moving parts, Solar Assistance installations operate virtually maintenance-free, providing clean heat for decades. RREAL manufactures a high performance solar heat panel and installs solar electricity, hot water, and air vent systems at market rate. HUG and HDT contract with MoonBay Designs - Erika and Madina Hagberg demonstrate their artistic abilities working with cob. Projects include the forest fantasy scene on the north wall, a cob staircase, cob vanity and cob bathtub as well as individual cob articles.
