Bale walls go up fast. After spending about 90 days preparing to place the bales, it takes only about 2 days to actually do it. Today we placed most of the North wall. There are many books and workshops teaching how to build from small bales. To the best of my knowledge, this is the first time anybody in the world has been crazy enough to make a building from 600 pound bales of straw. The logistics are different, but at least one cardinal rule stays the same. Keep the bales dry. ![]() Measuring moisture on every bale before placing it. ![]() Stuffing voids between bales with loose straw. ![]() West half of north wall, fully stacked to 9 feet high. Note that right angle walls are added every 25 feet for stability. ![]() Covering all walls before we leave for the weekend. [ Edited by Paul Hunt on Sat, 8 Nov 2003 01:26:56 -0600 ]
