Last week we mixed mud for probably the last time this year. I think that our mixing technique is pretty darn interesting, so I'm posting a few pictures. ![]() The picture above shows us unloading the cob from our Patz vertical Auger mixer. The mixer is powered by the tractor in the picture. With that mixer we can mix up 7000 lbs. of cob in a batch. The mixer we bought is on the smaller end of the auger spectrum. When we run a batch, we first add the clay/sand mix and water to the mixer. Then we add the straw. ![]() After that we let it mix and add enough straw for it to get nice and thick and "loafy". This picture shows it just after straw was added. ![]() The following picture is nice and loafy. ![]() Then we run the mixed cob out of the mixer and off the conveyor into the bobcat. ![]() In the future, we're planning on running the cob into a large pump, and applying the cob like shotcrete. We'll keep you posted as that develops.
