A shaft on the wind turbine broke, allowing it to spin with no resistance.  WERC arranged for a very large crane to assist with bringing the tower down.

 One of the contractors got to climb the tower to attach the crane's hook. 
 

Despite the size of the equipment it was an extremely delicate procedure.  

As the crew lowered the crane to the ground I observed from a safe distance.  Walking up the driveway (nearly under the activity) was a bit nerve-wracking.
